Dr. Simell is a physician, researcher, and instructor of international stature. His current participation on Finnish and international scientific advisory and review boards includes a dozen listings. In Finland, he has served on five National Consensus Meeting Panels. Having worked at the University of Helsinki in Finland for more than a decade as a Pediatric Specialist and Instructor, Dr. Simell was also a Senior Investigator on the Academy of Finlandâ€™s Research Council for Health, as well as a Senior Staff Member at the University of Floridaâ€™s College of Medicine in Gainesville. Among other roles, he served for four years on the Medical Science Review Committee of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in New York and for two years on the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (Novo Nordisk Review Committee).

Dr. Simell earned his M.D., Ph.D. (Pediatric Metabolism), Pediatrics Specialty, and Docent of Pediatrics at the University of Helsinki in Finland. He received his Docent of Clinical Nutrition at the University of Kuopio, Kuopio, Finland.
In 2004, Dr, Simell was awarded the Mary Jane Kugel Award, Medical Science Review Committee, of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International. In 2005, he was made a Knight, First Class, of the Order of the White Rose of Finland. Dr. Simell is also a Member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters. He has published over 350 peer reviewed scientific papers.
