Dr. Wherrett is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, Department of Pediatrics, The Hospital for Sick Children and University of Toronto. Dr. Wherrett has been the Principal Investigator and Center Director of the TrialNet site at the Hospital for Sick Children/University of Toronto since TrialNet’s inception. She is currently chairing TrialNet’s GAD Intervention Study which was launched in March 2009.  She has been a very active member of the TrialNet Steering Committee and worked extensively on other TrialNet committees.

  • New diabetes therapies

Dr. Wherrett received her MD from Queen’s University Medical School and completed her residency in pediatrics and fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at the Hospital for Sick Children/University of Toronto.  She strengthened her expertise in clinical research through the completion of a Diploma in Clinical Epidemiology in the Department of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto.


She was the recipient of a Pediatric Scientist Development Program Fellowship, completing a research fellowship between 1992 and 1995, in the laboratory of Dr. Hugh McDevitt in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Stanford University.
