Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet is proud to work with the world's leading experts in type 1 diabetes. In this issue, we feature TrialNet Principal Investigator Henry Rodriguez, M.D., chair of the TrialNet Natural History Pathway to Prevention Study, and professor of pediatrics and clinical director of the University of South Florida (USF) Diabetes Center.
In 1987, he graduated from Albany Medical College in New York. He completed his residency in pediatrics at the University of Miami and Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1990, followed by fellowship training in endocrinology at the University of California San Francisco.
With a background in basic research investigating adrenal steroidogenesis, Dr. Rodriguez began his clinical research career leading the DPT-1 Regional Recruitment Center at Indiana University (IU). Together with the late Dr. Mark Pescovitz, he established the TrialNet IU Clinical Center and served as Clinical Center Director from 2001 to 2010. He relocated to the University of South Florida in 2010 to become clinical director of the USF Diabetes Center and assume direction of the TrialNet USF Affiliate. Dr. Rodriguez was recently named chair of the TrialNet Natural History Pathway to Prevention Study and is an active member of the TrialNet Oral Insulin Study Chair Committee, Public Relations Committee, Clinic Monitoring Committee, and the TrialNet Steering Committee.
